Denture Services
Tooth loss can lead to a range of health and lifestyle challenges, including misaligned teeth and dietary restrictions that may limit essential nutrients like fresh vegetables and proteins. While dental implants are a popular solution for replacing missing teeth, some patients seek a non-surgical alternative, particularly for extensive tooth loss. In such cases, the experienced dentists at TCare Dental Centre® in Sydney may recommend dentures as an effective option.
What Are Dentures?
Dentures are custom-made artificial teeth designed to replace multiple or all missing teeth, helping to restore your smile and oral function. They are available in a variety of materials tailored to suit your individual needs. Your dentist will guide you through the options, explaining the benefits and limitations of acrylic, flexible, and metal-based dentures to help you choose the most suitable solution.
Types of Dentures Available
Restoring Smiles with Dentures
Dentures are versatile, removable dental appliances crafted to replace missing teeth, helping to restore both functionality and the appearance of your smile. To accommodate the unique needs of each patient, several types of dentures are available. Below are some of the most common options:
Partial dentures replace some of your missing teeth. We match them to your existing teeth, so they blend in with your smile.
Types of partial bases:
- Metal alloy
- Acrylic
- Flexible
We will discuss your goals for your comfort and lifestyle, so you can decide which framework will work best for your denture.
Complete dentures replace all of your teeth on the upper arch, lower arch or both arches.
Immediate dentures are for patients who have extractions but do not want to go without teeth during the healing process. These dentures are considered temporary, or interim, as you heal, and we plan for your final denture.
If you are concerned with dentures that move or shift, we can use several (usually 2-6) dental implants per arch to secure the denture in place.
What Is the Treatment Procedure for Dentures?
While procedures can vary from person to person, denture procedures follow these basic steps:
- Dental exam and imaging – This is a comprehensive exam with your dentist to evaluate overall health and the health of remaining teeth
- Consultation – Your dentist will discuss your options and the benefits and limitations of each. You will discuss the appearance of your smile and how you would like your denture to look.
- Impressions – Impressions will create a mould of your teeth that your dentist and the dental lab will use to create your denture. At TCare Dental Centre®, we use modern digital impressions for your comfort.
- Try-in – You will try a wax version of your denture to check fit and function.
- Denture delivery – Your denture will arrive from the dental lab. Your dentist will place it over your gums, make any minor adjustments and give you instructions for wearing your denture as you acclimate to it and heal if you have had dental extractions.
- Follow-up appointments – We will arrange incremental follow-up visits to adjust your new denture so we can avoid sores and hot spots as you grow accustomed to your new appliance.
- At-home denture care and use – Caring for your denture correctly at home is essential. How you care for your denture depends on whether you have a full or a partial denture. We will provide you with care instructions before you head home.
