Sleep Dentistry

Dental anxiety is a common challenge and one of the main reasons many people avoid visiting the dentist for years. At TCare Dental Centre®, we are committed to making quality dental care accessible to everyone in Campsie. Through our sleep dentistry and sedation dentistry options, we help even the most anxious patients feel at ease, ensuring that fear or anxiety no longer stands in the way of maintaining their oral health.

Dentistry For Anxious Patients

Sleep dentistry or sedation dentistry offers a practical solution in various situations, including:
• Addressing Dental Anxiety: Providing a stress-free way for those with dental anxiety to receive necessary care.
• Easing Fear of the Dentist: Helping patients overcome their fear of visiting the dentist.
• Managing Sensitive Gag Reflexes: Minimizing discomfort for individuals with an overly sensitive gag reflex.
• Reducing Needle Anxiety: Assisting patients with a fear of needles during dental procedures.
• Accommodating Tooth Sensitivity: Enabling individuals with extreme teeth sensitivity to access dental care comfortably.
• Overcoming Claustrophobia: Helping those who feel claustrophobic in the dentist’s chair relax during treatment.
• Supporting Special Needs Patients: Providing safe and effective dental care for individuals with physical, cognitive, or behavioral needs.
• Improving Safety for Uncontrolled Movements: Assisting those who struggle with movement control to receive care

Sleep dentistry ensures that all patients, regardless of their specific challenges, can access the oral health care they need with confidence and ease.

Oral & IV Sedation

At TCare Dental Centre®, we’re committed to making your visit as comfortable and stress-free as possible. To help ease anxiety, we offer both oral and IV sedation tailored to your needs.

  • Oral Sedation: A simple pill taken about an hour before your treatment to help you feel calm and relaxed throughout the procedure.
  • Sedation: Administered directly into your bloodstream, this option gently puts you to sleep during the procedure, allowing you to wake up feeling refreshed once it’s complete or when the sedation wears off.

Our sedation options are designed to ensure a peaceful and worry-free dental experience, so you can receive the care you need with confidence.

Who Can Have Sedation Dentistry

We recommend sedation for patients who feel anxious or fearful about dental treatments. As long as you have someone to support you and a safe way to travel to and from your appointment, and no underlying conditions or medications that would make sedation unsafe, we can help. Sedation is an excellent choice for anyone dealing with anxiety or for those undergoing multiple invasive procedures or cosmetic treatments.

After Your Dental Procedure

After your procedure, you may experience some swelling or discomfort as the sedative wears off. In most cases, over-the-counter pain relievers from your local pharmacy can help manage this.

For certain procedures, your dentist may provide additional instructions. For example, after a tooth extraction, you should:

  • Stick to soft foods for the first 24 hours.
  • Chew on the opposite side of your mouth.
  • Avoid using straws to prevent dislodging the blood clot.
  • Refrain from smoking for at least 24 hours to support proper healing.

For your safety, we recommend arranging for a friend or family member to drive you to and from your appointment, whether you opt for IV or oral sedation.
