Wisdom Teeth Removal
Wisdom Teeth Removal at TCare Dental Centre®
When the third molars, commonly known as wisdom teeth, begin to grow, they can lead to various complications. Typically the last set of adult teeth to emerge, wisdom teeth usually appear during the teenage years or early adulthood.
Due to their position at the very back of the mouth, wisdom teeth often cause issues such as crowding, misalignment, or discomfort, making removal necessary in many cases. At TCare Dental Centre®, wisdom teeth removal is a routine procedure performed with care and expertise to ensure your comfort and oral health.
When To Remove Wisdom Teeth
Do Wisdom Teeth Always Need to Be Removed?
Not all wisdom teeth require removal. However, extraction may be necessary in the following situations:
• Pain caused by the emergence of the wisdom teeth.
• Frequent infections in the soft tissue behind the lower last tooth.
• Development of cysts or tumors in the area.
• Wisdom teeth causing damage to nearby teeth.
• Gum disease occurring around the wisdom teeth.
• Detection of significant tooth decay in the wisdom teeth.
If your wisdom teeth are not causing any issues, there is no need for removal. At TCare Dental Centre®, our skilled dentists monitor your oral health closely during regular check-ups, identifying potential problems with your wisdom teeth early—often before you experience any discomfort.
Infection
When an impacted wisdom tooth starts to push through the gums, an infection can start around the top of the tooth. Infection and inflammation (swollen red gums) can cause pain, swelling and jaw stiffness.
Cysts
Cysts, which are sacks of fluid, can develop all around a tooth and may cause it to shift. The cysts can harm gums and other teeth while also destroying bone.
Damage To Nearby Molars
An impacted wisdom tooth may keep pushing against the molars next to it. This often leads to a serious damage to both teeth.
How Are Wisdom Teeth Removed?
Wisdom Teeth Monitoring at TCare Dental Centre®
At TCare Dental Centre®, we carefully track the development of wisdom teeth through radiographs during routine dental check-ups. Regular evaluations allow us to determine whether your wisdom teeth are likely to emerge naturally without issues or if intervention may be necessary to address potential problems or discomfort. Our proactive approach ensures your oral health is managed effectively and with minimal disruption.
Sedation for Wisdom Teeth Removal
At TCare Dental Centre®, we understand that dental anxiety can make it challenging to receive the care you need. That’s why we offer sedation dentistry for wisdom teeth removal, helping you feel relaxed and stress-free during the procedure. Our goal is to ensure your comfort while delivering the highest standard of care.
Sectioning Wisdom Teeth
Sectioning is a technique used to simplify the extraction of wisdom teeth by breaking them into smaller pieces. These pieces are removed individually, minimizing the force needed and making the process gentler on the jaw and gums. This method is particularly useful for teeth that are impacted, broken, or severely decayed, ensuring a smoother and less invasive extraction experience.
Wisdom Teeth Removal Aftercare
After your procedure, we recommend taking some time to rest. Your dentist will give you a list of post-procedure instructions and medication recommendations, which we advise you to follow closely for a straightforward healing process.
When a healing clot that covers the extraction site becomes dislodged, it can cause a lot of discomfort and draw out the healing process. Our dentists will give you instructions on how to avoid dry-socket (for instance, not smoking, eating soft foods, etc.). You should reach out if you have any concerns following your wisdom teeth removal.
For the first two days, stick to soft foods like yogurt, soup, apple sauce, ice cream and such. Eating cold foods can help ease pain or discomfort. On day three, you can start trying out easy foods like eggs, toast and oatmeal. You can continue to increase solid foods as long as you don’t experience any discomfort.
